In December 2012, the Union of Jewish Students (UJS) announced the election of their newly elected President, Joe Tarsh, who will be succeeding Alex Green in June 2013. UJS is one of the biggest unions in WUJS, representing over 8,500 Jewish students studying in the UK and Ireland. WUJS had the pleasure of welcoming Joe to our Jerusalem Congress this month where he was introduced to other young Jewish leaders from around the world.
Joe who was born in Radlett, England is currently a student at Manchester Metropolitan University and will graduate this year. He also works as a youth worker at the Salford City Council.
Joe ran on a platform of envisioning an organization which makes every student feel valued by the organization and provides resources and activities that support Jewish students on and off campus. For the upcoming year, he plans the promotion of a culture of inclusivity across the British and Irish union with an added emphasis on engaging sixth form students (final year of High School students).
All of the WUJS team had the opportunity of spending a few days with Joe, getting to know him and his future vision for UJS. We are excited to work together in the coming year and wish him lots of success.
