For almost 50 years LGBT+ folks and their allies have celebrated the Month of June as Pride Month. LGBT+ pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT+ rights movements throughout the world.
As a movement that includes Jewish students of every sexuality and gender, we at WUJS will be celebrating Pride Month by profiling Jewish LGBT+ students on our social media and hosting blogs on our website written by Jewish LGBT+ students.
As a proudly intersectional movement, we also encourage all our members around the world to show solidarity with LGBT folks by attending Pride events in your cities. Bonus points if you send us pictures of yourselves attending pride parades holding signs from your union!
