The WUJS Executive are pleased to announce the co-option of Chaya Pomeranz to the position of WUJS Chairperson. Chaya, who has served as WUJS comptroller for two years and ran in the unsuccessful January election, will serve as Chairperson until at least Congress 2013 which is scheduled to be held in Jerusalem at the end of this year. Chaya was co-opted by the executive board at an extraordinary general assembly which was held during the AJC Access Summit in Washington and was picked out of a list of potential candidates, all of whom had submitted extensive materials and presented themselves for interviews with different executive members.
Chaya is a graduate of Bar Ilan University for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees and has been involved with Jewish student activism for many years. Chaya founded the Israeli Model UN Association and served as its Bar Ilan President while graduating both from Stand With Us and two Tikva Fund programs.
Chaya will be based out of a new WUJS programming office that is opening at Bar Ilan University and will be working with our Director, Yoni Danino-Forsyth, in strengthening the role of WUJS with individual member unions and with foreign students in Israel-based programs. Chaya will be responsible for the Congress 2013 working group and will be setting this up shortly.
The Executive, and our Director in particular, would like to pay thanks to our outgoing Chairperson, Oliver Worth, for the dedication and energy in which he has served in the position; volunteering to remain at the office even after his mandate was due to expire in January and at a time which was incredibly inconvenient to him personally. WUJS wishes Oliver the very best with his new activities in the IDF Basic Training Camp and wishes him a successful service with the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit for the Foreign Press.
