As the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS), we want to shine a light on the acts of discrimination, extremism and antisemitism, caused by the “Israel Apartheid” events that occurred this past week.
On many university campuses, the events that occurred this week affected many Jewish and Israeli students. This week has shown students worldwide the true danger of misinformation and antisemitism that has made it very difficult for our students to feel safe on their campuses.
In South Africa, Israel Apartheid Week hits close to home in a number of ways. This year was one of the most intense that students have ever experienced. Our students were incredibly strong and resilient, while facing Hamas, Hezbollah and PIJ flags waving across their campus and people screaming antisemitic slurs in their faces.
“This week South African Jewish students stood proud and stood tall. We defended ourselves, we defended our right to exist and we defended the land of Am Yisrael, proudly. In the face of brutal terror we never back down. We are so much better together than we are apart.” - Erin Dodo, chairperson of SAUJS Western Cape
We hope that Jewish and Israeli students keep safe and receive the protection that they deserve on hostile university campuses.
WUJS wishes to remind you to reach out to us if you require direct support on your campus.
Our love is stronger than their hate.
Am Yisrael Chai.
