WUJS Chairperson Andi Gergely attended the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington DC
“The AIPAC Policy Conference is the largest gathering of America’s pro-Israel community. The conference highlights the importance of the partnership between the United States and Israel and showcases the two nations’ common interests in making the world a better place.” (via AIPAC)
The Policy Conference (March 2-4, 2014) was a great opportunity to meet and exchange with other students and student organisations from the US and around the world that are active in pro-Israel advocacy on campuses. (Such as ICC, Hillel, AEPi, etc) More than 2,200 students from 491 campuses have attended AIPAC this year representing various organisations.
Andi had meetings with representatives of the Israel Campus Coalition (ICC) discussing programs and strategies between ICC and WUJS and speaking about potential cooperation in the future. Andi met student representatives of the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee and heard about their leadership program in detail while speaking about common challenges in Canada and Europe. Andi also met students from AEPi and Hillel and brainstormed ideas for student exchanges between Jewish students in the United States and the rest of the world.
Andi gave a presentation to the student delegation of the Jewish Federation of Orange County and spoke to them about the realities of Jewish student unions in different parts of the world, South Africa and Europe in particular.
The AIPAC Policy Conference was also a great opportunity to spend time with the current and former Campaigns Director of UJS (UK) and plan WUJS activities for 2014-15.
The trip was supported by the ROI Micro-grants and AIPAC.
