Communiqué of the Jewish Students Federation of Chile (FEJ):
“Last week in Cochabamba, the members of the first Directive-Board of the new Jewish Students Federation of Bolivia were announced. Lead by President Eduardo Galetovic and Vice President Michelle Meyer, this new initiative seeks to reposition the role of the Jewish Community within Bolivian society, and especially within its youth.
The new Federation counts with the full support the Israelite Association of Cochabamba and the personal guidance and counsel of Jessica Pauker, one of its four Board members. Their action plan contemplates an expansion of their volunteer base to the Jewish Youth of Santa Cruz and La Paz, as well as coordinating activities at a national level.
The idea behind the birth of this new initiative comes in the context of our Pahil Nico Riethmüller’s visit to the Jewish Communities of Bolivia in a Judaic-Zionist educational mission to find, train and motivate the local Jewish youth to get empowered and become activists from their communities to their societies.
We congratulate the our brothers in the Bolivian community for creating their own Jewish Students Federation, as well as our pahil, for the important step that was reached towards a continent-wide Latin-American Jewish Student network. We also take this opportunity to welcome our Bolivian peers to the global community of Young Jewish Activists, whom we hope will soon be and active part of WUJS.”
Andi Gergely, Chairperson of WUJS commented: “WUJS is fully supporting the Jewish Student Federation of Chile (FEJ) is their hard work and commitment in enabling and inspiring Jewish students in Latin America to form Student Unions and we are looking forward to involving small communities in the global discussion.”
