Hope 4 Hanukkah is a campaign that was originally started by EUJS and WUJS in 2012 during Operation Pillar of Defence. We collected money and gifts to be distributed to children in Merkaz Klitot (Absorption centers) living in the south of Israel spending their days in bomb shelters hiding from rockets. In 2012 with the help and support of Jewish students and communities globally Hope 4 Hanukkah touched the lives of hundreds of children and brought them joy during those difficult times.
In 2015 we have decided to re-launch this campaign to support the victims of terror attacks and their families.
This year Hope 4 Hanukkah will be raising money to buy presents that will be delivered to victims of terror all across Israel in partnership with One Family. One Family is the only organization that rehabilitates, reintegrates and rebuilds the lives of those affected by terror attacks. Together with One Family, WUJS is aiming to bring the light of Hanukkah to the victims of terror and to their families. With the help of Jewish students globally, we will be able to show our support to the children providing them with a little hope for Hanukkah.
We encourage our unions and other organizations wishing to take part to download the H4H logo and have it printed on T-shirts which you can sell to your members. The money from the sales will be contributing directly to the continued efforts of One Family and will also be sponsoring a Hanukkah gifts to be presented personally to a child affected by terror.
In the wake of the recent terror attacks in Paris and in other parts of the world, WUJS encourages its Member Unions to engage in charitable activities within their communities in the spirit of Hanukkah, to show that we must unite in light and represent, in the words of Rabbi Dov Berl Wein, that “this light is not for us alone.”
