EUJS and WUJS is offering a fantastic learning opportunity: Seminar in Macedonia about Shoah education
“To the Future: Holocaust Commemoration for Our Generation”
What is commemoration? What purpose(s) does it serve? How does it impact me and my peers? What does it mean for the Jewish community and our future? Can commemoration shape actions?
As young Jews today, the Holocaust has an undeniable impact on us, our families and our communities. As Jewish student unions, we take our responsibility in honoring the memory of the victims and survivors very seriously – So we ask ourselves: How can we make our Holocaust education and commemoration programming relevant to our peers?
Join EUJS, WUJS and the Memorial Center for the Jews of Macedonia for a five-day seminar exploring these questions in Skopje, Macedonia, from April 25th to 30th! Learn with educators from Yad Vashem, the Memorial Center for the Jews of Macedonia and CEJI – A Jewish Contribution to an Inclusive Europe, and discuss and develop new approaches with Jewish student leaders from around Europe. Get to know the Macedonian Jewish community and their history, visit Skopje and connect with Macedonian Jewish youth!
The goals of this unique seminar are:
1: To engage Jewish student leaders in a discussion on Holocaust commemoration and its impact on collective Jewish identity today, and to support them in creating relevant activities for their peers and society at large
2: To broaden the participants knowledge of the Balkan Jewish community’s fate during the Holocaust, to understand how the current community approaches commemoration at the Holocaust Memorial Center for the Jews of Macedonia, and to connect with the Macedonian Jewish community and Macedonian Jewish students.
When: Friday 25 – Wednesday 30 April 2014
